Motivation is the driving force behind our actions. Therefore, to have more motivation to do the right thing is one of the most common desires. But the motivation is sometimes means not doing things that can kill the motivation.
Are you doing the following five mistakes that can kill your motivation when doing important things?
Each of reasons including a powerful technique to help you cope and stay motivated.
1. You wait for motivation to come
Motivation is based on your emotions and environment. The best way to increase your motivation is to change the emotion or the environment. But how do you do it?
By taking action. It can change your emotions and the environment at the same time.
Many people believe that they need motivation before taking action, but commonly occurs precisely the motivation to follow when action is taken. Think about your motivation levels before and during the act. Once you start, you will see an increase motivation in completing the job, is not it? Of course, because there is nothing more motivating than the act, which would trigger an emotional shift and change your environment in one fell swoop.
How to overcome in order not to wait for motivation to come:
The way that you immediately get your motivation before the act is to take small steps first. This is necessary because it does not require a lot of motivation, but it will only encourage additional motivation. Suppose you want to exercise, start by taking your sports clothing. Or if you want to create an essay, start by writing one sentence.
If you always wait for motivation to come first, you will wait for half your life. And wait motivation will actually make demotivation! But if you get moving, emotional state and your motivation will align with what your body is doing.
2. You are not confident
Motivation is very sensitive to your beliefs. If you for example want to get the ideal body, but you do not fully believe that practicing in the gym will make your expectations come true, then you would not be motivated to go to the gym. Psychologists refer to it as self-efficacy, ie the belief in your ability to influence the outcome.
How to overcome your doubts:
If you do not believe that taking action will change your life in a meaningful way, do some research. Read the stories of others who have done it and focus on the causes and consequences of their actions. It would be difficult to believe that you can do something you've never done, and it can turn off your motivation. But if you do your research and take action (with small steps), your beliefs will change, and your motivation to continue to rise.
3. You leave feeling short term hamper your way
The word "motivation" has the meaning of short-term and long-term. Suppose I am 100% motivated to get the ideal body, but especially this time I was not motivated to exercise.
In other words, you may want something in general, but do not want a particular moment because feelings and your circumstances at that time. Because we want things tend to require hard work and effort, it is easy to lose motivation.
How to cope with short-term negative feelings:
Accept the fact that you do not need to feel motivated to practice at any given moment. This does not have to stop you. The feeling only stop people when they feel the same way also with their long-term desires. Once again, small steps will fight this short-term negative feelings well because they also will enable your long-term motivation.
4. You lose track of why you pursue your goals
For any purpose, it is important to remember why you pursue it in the first priority. What are the benefits? If you forget about these benefits, your goal will look like a huge mountain of unwanted! And nothing is less motivating than a lot of work, but without meaningful rewards.
How to remember:
It is recommended to use a vision board to make you aware of why you put it as a priority of all your efforts. Vision board is a visual representation of your destination. They are so effective because our minds will think of concepts in a visual way.
5. You try too much at one time
I am among those who believe more in the small goals that build greater purpose. Most people aspiring for a big reward of what they will get when the goal is reached, and this will give you a surge of motivation at first. But it can also backfire, when we began to enter the phase of "boring job" while pursuing the goal. Rewards that we pursue such a seemingly getting away, while we do the job demands "boring job" is.
How to cope with unrealistic goals:
Start with little things to make you stay on track with your big goals; even when the reward seems more remote, but small goals that will enable you to hold the workload and encourage you to get through things bigger with better. If you aim to ensure victory since the beginning, you will most likely get discouraged and lose your motivation.
